Rise turns five this year. What a pinch-me moment.
Five years ago, it was a one-woman operation in a spare bedroom. Saying yes to every project that I knew I could deliver on. Building momentum. Growing a network. And honestly? Proving to myself that this thing I was building could actually work.
Fast forward to today and Rise is now a handpicked collective of incredible creators and specialists. There have been pivots. Boundaries. Growth. Big decisions. And so many moments that shaped the way we now operate.
In the spirit of celebrating five years, here are five lessons that have really defined the journey so far.
1. Trust your gut (especially at the beginning)
If there’s friction from the very first conversation with a client, trust that feeling.
More often than not, that early tension sets the tone for the entire working relationship. Not every opportunity is the right opportunity, even if it looks good on paper.
Learning to tell the difference between excitement and misalignment has been one of the biggest growth shifts for Rise.
2. It’s okay to say yes at the start…but don’t stay there
In the early days, saying yes to every project, every job, was necessary. It built confidence. It built momentum. It proved the concept.
But what got us here won’t get us there.
As Rise evolved, so did our understanding of what we’re actually best at, and what truly energises us. That clarity allowed us to lean into our strengths and bring in specialists for the rest.
Growth didn’t come from doing more. In fact, it came from doing the right things, better.
3. You don’t have to build it alone
For a long time, everything sat with one person. And while that builds resilience, it’s not sustainable long-term.
Bringing in specialists. Asking for help. Outsourcing where needed. Leaning into collective expertise.
That shift changed everything.
There are no extra points for doing it all yourself. In fact, the opposite is usually true.
4. Systems matter (but so does connection)
We love a good system. Truly.
But just because a new tool or automation exists doesn’t mean it’s right for you or your clients.
Over the years, we’ve learned to find the sweet spot. Systems that create clarity and consistency, without replacing human connection or overcomplicating delivery.
Strategy first. Tools second. Always.
5. Rest is not optional
In the early days, boundaries were blurry at best. Work filtered into everything.
Now we know that rest is not a reward, it’s a requirement.
For us, slowing down resets perspective, and protects passion. It keeps creativity alive. Embracing slower seasons has allowed Rise to grow without burnout becoming the cost of success.
And honestly? Rest makes the work better.
Five years in, we’re incredibly proud of what Rise has become; a collective built on intention, connection and doing the work properly.
If you’ve been part of the journey in any way, whether as a client, collaborator, cheerleader or quiet supporter, thank you.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more reflections as part of our “Five Years of Rise” series.
Five years down.
Still learning.
Still growing.
And very much just getting started.
