Your Small Business Guide to Christmas Marketing Prep

The decorations aren’t up yet, but the festive season is already on the horizon for business owners. Between end-of-year deadlines, client projects and customer rushes, marketing can easily slip down the list…but it’s one of the biggest ways to set your business up for a strong finish.

October is the sweet spot for small businesses to map out their Christmas and New Year campaigns before the rush kicks in. A little preparation now will save you a whole lot of stress later (and, future you will be very grateful).

We work with small businesses every year to plan and prepare for the busy season, and one thing we know for sure: the earlier you start, the easier it gets.

1. Know Where to Show Up

Before diving into content, take a moment to think about where your customers actually are. Are they scrolling Instagram? Checking Facebook for updates? Googling local services? Focus your efforts on the platforms that matter most for your business, and show up there consistently.

2. Get Strategic with Ads

If you’re planning to run paid campaigns on Google or Meta, now’s the time to get those set up. The earlier your ads are live, the more data you’ll have to refine them, and the better chance you’ll have to reach customers before they’ve made their holiday purchasing decisions.

  1. Give Your Website Some Love

Your website deserves a seasonal check-up too.
Ask yourself:

  • Are there new products, services or offers launching before Christmas?
  • Do you have clear “last order” or closure dates listed?
  • Is there a banner or pop-up sharing your holiday trading hours?

These small updates help your customers stay informed and make your business look polished, proactive, and ready for the season.

4. Keep Your Google Business Profile Up to Date

Your Google Business Profile is often the first place customers check for your hours, location and reviews. Make sure everything is accurate, and while you’re there, add a few fresh photos or posts to show you’re active and open for business.

5. Make Space for Rest

The holiday season is full-on, but planning ahead now means you can actually switch off when it arrives. Schedule your content, set up auto-replies, and carve out some well-earned time off.

The Christmas period doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. You don’t have to do everything; just start early, stay consistent, and give yourself a head start. A little planning now means a smoother, calmer December (and that might just be the best Chrissy gift of all for small business owners).
